Mayor of Chincha (Carpish)
This was the talk of the Mayor of Chinchao in the opening ceremony of the Seventh National Congress of ornithological last April 27, 2008. I share with you! We had visited
Mindo in Ecuador, a project organized by Kolibri Expeditions to show Peruvian Campesinos conservation purposes of eco-tourism is a viable way. The project was financed with funds of Kolibri Expeditions and their clients, and also a donation by the NGO ECOAN. Thank you all.
Dear Sirs
VII organizers of the National Congress of Ornithology, Vice Minister of Tourism Mr. Pablo Lopez de Romana, Dr Tom Schulenberg, ladies and gentlemen!
I am Chinchao district mayor in the department of Huanuco, including Unchog Carpish that are known places for birdwatching. As a district mayor in Huanuco, I see that there is pressure to build a bus terminal in Huanuco, instead of conserving natural forests in the region. Also, I see that there is pressure to build roads directly to the virgin forests that have not yet been studied by biologists, only to cut down trees and bring truckloads wood as fuel, instead of building better schools.
There are many community members who know that are irreversible and destructive practices that ultimately await landslides and soil depletion. Come tourism activity as a way to stop this process, but need examples to encourage them and set the course. I want to go for conservation and eco-tourism.
I had the privilege of being invited by Gunnar Engblom of Kolibri Expeditions last week and Tandayapa Mindo in Ecuador, which are highly similar to Carpish area, and here the bird watching, ecotourism and adventure tourism generates million dollars annually. 10-15 years ago there had the same problems with logging and burning that we have now. Now they take care of their forest and reforesting.
is important to see with your own eyes these examples that leads to sustainable development. How I wish that everyone in my department could have gone with us to Ecuador to see that there really are alternatives! During this trip have been seen examples of community projects, private shelters prettiest gardens with feeders for hummingbirds, tanagers and toucans, sightseeing excursions, horse and bicycle trails and self guided rafting in the rushing rivers. There are also orchid gardens and butterfly houses.
join me in the excellent leadership of Julio Benites, traveled five farmers Carpish Pampa Hermosa district in the province of Satipo in Junín - all invited by Gunnar and whose initiative for this has been new and very welcome.
I wanted to be a father - my brother called John - now I am Mayor conservation.
I present to you 5 sinners who have saved for this trip to Mindo. Each now carries a story to tell their communities and all have learned important lessons about conservation.
In Pampa Hermosa, Junin between Satipo and Concepcion, we Huaycañe Enrique Silvestre - Pampa Hermosa councilman and chairman of the community of Ullimarca and Huncamachay. Sylvester and does not bounce away from the window of the bus, because I had to go down to pick it up when it was struck. Ullimarca sticks to Apalla-Pumpkin and is connected by a new road through a beautiful forest subtropics, temperate trees being cut down little by little to sell as firewood. Wildlife is committed to stop this process as an authority in the area. Alanya Eusebio Quiñones
president's brother-Pumpkin Apalla community and former president of the peasant round chainsaw owner has done more damage to these forests. Graves no longer virgin forest, but wants to reforest.
Ercilio Torres Ponce - brother the mayor of Pampa Hermosa and resident in Mariposa. He also had a chainsaw .... Now he wants to be a guide to birding!
Alejandro Poma De Huanuco next incarnation - vice president of San Pedro de Carpish and president of School Parents' Association and former logger's vast forests of the area. Iban come Ñaupamarca a villager from the bottom left of the famous trail Paty. Said they had their ID updated for not paid, but Alexander argues that the main reason nobody wanted to come to this community was because he thought I and Gunnar were pishtacos we were going to sell their organs abroad. Alejandro is a bit shocked but still alive and grateful fight to develop an eco-path for hiking and horses among Carpish, Paty Trail Ñaupamarca and Unchog.
Reyes Rivera finally Pachachupan Arústica of long ago that was sinful because it is conservation since 1973, 35 years ago, when she joined the first expedition of the University of Louisiana with John O'Neill and Ted Parker. The following year also participated with Tom Schulenberg here today. And he has worked with other prominent ornithologists as Fjeldsa Jon and Paul Coopmans and remains employed by companies such as bird watching and Manu Kolibri Expeditions whenever groups Forest have Unchog.
We must also mention the visit in Peru. We visited Villa Marshes, Poza the Grit, Window and Paradise in Lima, the ruins of the Witch in La Libertad, Tumbes mangroves and visit tomorrow Pomac Forest and Conservation Area Private Chaparri before returning to Lima and our respective houses. Also, we must thank the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law for giving us a talk on the possibilities that the new law on Private Conservation Areas.
To end this report we demonstrate that we are all committed to protect and preserve. Below a pre-presentation of the filming of the observation center path produced by PromPeru birds. Here comes the part of Carpish Unchog, but in the final version which is putting the finishing touches also leaves the valley of Pampa Hermosa on the dirt road between Satipo and Concepción. It should be stressed that this is only a draft. We are grateful to Mincetur and Promperu for promoting our area and hopefully Mr. Vice Minister that the next path is PromPeru strongly support the center as has been done in the north. Us and we are all conservationists!

Post No 100
is my hundredth post since I started in December 2005 ... in that office in a warehouse, cold my god that I was there, not what you imagine, one hundred posts, a hundred thoughts a hundred different points of view with many people behind and in front of many people.
When I read the meter and see more than four thousand, gives vertigo, four thousand who have bothered to spend a moment with me, four thousand thanks.
I'm still here although not displayed as much.
PS: and I doubt if I miss it with or without hache hache. (Gino)
